Bonus Advice!

  • You’ve got to be in it to win it! While this is not a practical tip, don't wait until year three of the program to apply. Leverage the experience gained in 2009 and apply for a Schools First Award in 2010 to give your school-community partnership a chance to receive some of the $5.2 million available this year.
  • In 2010, we've doubled the number of Seed Funding Awards from 20 to 40. So, if you applied but missed out in 2009 for this category, get involved again this year - your odds just got better!
  • Even if you don’t win an award, remember that your school will benefit from building stronger links to your local community. Research shows that strong partnerships between schools and local community organisations lead to a range of positive outcomes. Read more about the research.
  • And finally, if you don’t succeed in 2010, you can try again in 2011. The Schools First Awards program has pledged $15 million over three years. Each year, all unsuccessful applicants will receive feedback from the judges. This invaluable feedback could help you strengthen existing partnerships or form new ones, which could put you in an even stronger position to win an award in 2011.
