Hi Josh, I have a projectthat involves engaging young people in research and debate on road safety issues as part of a community re3sponse to Road Safety Month in September over the Moree Plains & Gwydir Shires in September 2010. As a member of Moree Toastmasters I have been approached by the Road Safety Officer of the above Shires to conduct this debate. I have approached schools and am awaiting their response on return from holiday break at 19th July. How would you see this project fitting with the guidelines of Schools First funding. Who would need to make the application? Would it have to be the school/s? It would be really great to get some funding to assist with this project as I have Zero budget to do it and am relying on a lot of community support. Regards Val

Josh Levy replied:
Hi Val, the first thing to be addressed here is to ensure that you are in a true partnership with these schools. If they are paying for your services (fee for service), then this will be ineligible for Schools First funding. However, if that is not the case you would just need to ensure that you and the nominated school/s work together on your application, but it must be submitted by the school. The application guidelines and form outline this clearly. The second thing to address is to look at which Award you might apply for. Seed Funding Awards are for newer partnerships that require some start up funding and Impact Awards are for established partnerships that have proven outcomes for young people. It's really important for you to get the strong support of the school/s to support you in building this partnership and then your application. Thanks

Hi Josh-just a quick technical question. We have a a couple of charts which we want to include in our documentation. I noted that you need to use 12 font but charts seem to generate smaller font (labels for pie charts etc). Are we still able to use them? Cheers Catherine

Josh Levy replied:
Hi Catherine, it seems you're a frequent forum attendee, this is great! Yes all text in the application supporting pages must be in 12 pt font. You can include as many charts/graphs as you like. These typically automatically generate the size of the font for the labels - agreed, however, you might want to attempt to adjust the size of the font of these labels to ensure they are legible for the judges to read. Thanks

Yes Josh-the forum has been a very handy way to keep us on track as we complete the application. I have been keeping it on in the background whilst I am working. I hope that everybody is using it as it is making our lives easier (and more efficient!) Much appreciated-catherine
